Description

Photo of the Class 47 Co-Co Diesel-Electric Locomotive 47117, probably taken in the 1970s.

The British Rail Class 47 (or Brush Type 4) is a diesel-electric locomotive developed in the 1960s by Brush Traction. They were either built at Crewe Works or at Brush's Falcon Works. In total 512 were built between 1962 and 1968.

Over 40 years later there are still some working on the mainline.
