2/9/2017 Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, Porthmadog, Wales, UK
Built in the 1860's to carry 2 tons of tightly packed slate. Tightley packed to avoid as much as possible to prevent breakage.
Even so some got broken and because of that and so customers would not be short. So if you ordered 100 slates you might get 120.
At one time the Ffestiniog Railway had about 1000 of these wagons carrying slate from the quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog to the harbour at Porthmadog to be shipped all around the world.
