Photographed on 30 September 2015 somewhere between Warsaw and Poznan. A V12 diesel-electric 2,000 hp Co-Co freight locomotive, originally imported from Russia. This was in the 1960s when Poland was unable to build such powerful locomotives.
Built by the Voroshilovgrad Locomotive Factory (in today's Lugansk, Ukraine). Poland received a total of 1,191 of these, which in Poland were designated ST44. However their heavy fuel consumption and the fact that they caused track damage meant that most were withdrawn from use. The remaining locomotives used in industry and by private companies, like this one, have regained their Soviet M62 designation.
