A bush fire in September 2017 has resulted in the closure until further notice of the Richmond Vale Museum after an enormous amount of damage was caused to a mile and a half of the track, the destruction of a bridge and some of the rolling stock. Fortunately, however, the 11 steam locomotives, 9 diesels and the coaches used in regular service were undamaged. The Museum was established 38 years ago on the site of a former coal mine.
