The US coast-to-coast tour continued from Grand Junction Colorado by coach, and the first stop on the route to Silverton was at Ridgway, on 24 September 2014. There is a general history of the “Galloping Geese” in the text for picture 22392. As mentioned there, the original Rio Grande Southern (RGS) number 1 dating from 1931 which had been built at Ridgway was scrapped, but at this road junction we found this replica and some rolling stock on a short length of railway track.
The replica came to Ridgway on 6 November 2000, after, on 22 and 23 July it had run at the Colorado Railroad Museum at Golden for 50 miles, and also with Galloping Geese nos. 4 and 5 at Silverton on 23 August 2000.
Subsequently 1 has run on both the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad.
