I notice that the Soot-Blower Valve & Pipework is not fitted on the smokebox door ring. They were quite a boon when the Standards were running for B.R. and did a fair job on the tubes and anything else that you wanted a bit cleaner in the s/box.

Tony, do you mean when mentioning the omission of the "soot blower" the piping and possibly valve to be seen on other Class 4 locomotives at the eight o'clock position at the front edge of the smokebox? This I think is what is referred to as a steam valve and steam lance in my "Pictorial Record of British Railways Standard Steam Locomotives", a book which is my principal reference source, containing both large photographs of "as built" and modified Standard locomotives, along with detailed line drawings. Essential for anyone as interested in steam locomotives as I am!

Correct Peter, I was using our workshop description of the valve. It was for the fitting of a steam lance at sheds and I must defer to your reference source. I don't even recall what it was called on our drawings, just fitting the valve etc. as required was my main concern, happy memories though.
