Photo taken March 24 / 2014 at the National Railway Museum Port Adelaide in the city of Adelaide Australia. National Railway Museum, Australia's largest railway museum with over 100 exhibits representing State, Commonwealth and private railway operators on the three major rail gauges used in Australia. Loco Number 2 Chitty Mile End Railway Museum - 18 Inch Gauge
This locomotive was operated originally on 610mm gauge at Barry’s Brickyard Torrensville until acquired by the museum in September 1968, when it was regauged by Hercus Engineering to 457mm gauge for use on it’s miniature railway.
Chitty gained it’s name from the sound it would make, but also in homage to the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Chitty has been on static display since 1988.
