This is the mainline train used in Denmark (together with its electrical counterpart, IR4). Developed in the 80's and delivered in the early 90's, it replaced locomotive-hauled intercity trains.
The "rubber nose" allows for aerodynamic coupling of trainsets, and the front panel can be opened like a door to allow for free passage for passengers.
Maximum speed is 180 kph (112 mph), using its four 298 kW engines. It's one of the few (if not the only) DMU that are in revenue service coupled with EMUs.
Manufacturer: Scandia, later bought by Adtranz, later bought by Bombardier
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
What do you think of these long descriptions? Too much? Would you like more pictures from Denmark (including suburban trains, Øresund trains, double deck stock)? Send me a mail :)
